What does card present mean?

Card present transactions are when a consumer makes a purchase by swiping through a credit card terminal at a merchant’s physical location. It is confirmed card present due to the fact the magnetic strip on the payment card is scanned and read through the payment terminal. Card present transactions tend to usually have lower payment processing rates than transactions considered card not present.
