The detection of fraudulent transactions to prevent reputational damage and financial damage. Fraud leads to  excessive chargebacks due to stolen payment information or identity theft which can land merchants on the TMF Match list.  The Match List could hinder their ability to accept credit cards and possibly shut their business down.
